OLSON REDEEMS HIMSELF WITH ANOTHER WIN IN FORMULA 2000;
TAKES POLE, 1ST, AND FASTEST LAP TO LEAD CHAMPIONSHIP BY
SOLID POINTS MARGIN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 17, 2007
Ontario, Canada –
In another inspired drive today, American Pete Olson took home his second winner's trophy in BRAC MTP Formula 2000
up North. After Olson qualified significantly ahead of the competition, he and Columbian racer Santiago Rojas got off to
a fast start and left the competition behind to fight for the lead.
However, as Olson slowly pulled ahead, after five laps the race went to full course yellow after two other racers
impacted in corner six, leaving one F2000 racecar stalled on the track with its nose torn off and debris covering the
track.
After two laps under yellow during which the stalled car was moved off the track, the race was restarted in single file.
"Then I was right back at work with Rojas" said Olson, with a restart taking away the gains Olson had fought to make
on him during the first five laps, before the incident in turn six.
Olson and Rojas got off to a fast restart and left the field behind for the incident-free remainder of the race, with Olson
slowly opening a gap on Rojas to take the checkered flag and fastest race lap by a significant margin. The victory and
bonus points for pole position in qualifying as well as fastest race lap put Olson significantly ahead in the points
standings. However, Olson said "Some people say that because of the points lead, I can get comfortable, but there is
no such thing as being comfortable in racing, if you want to win races and championships, you have to keep working as
hard as you can. Yes, I won today but I wanted faster lap times. I don't think I can ever be satisfied with a race,
whether I win it or not, I know that there is always room to improve and things to work on...but that is one of the
great things about motorsports."
Olson went on to say, “I want to dedicate this latest victory to those people over the years who told me I was chasing
a stupid dream. You have always been a great source of inspiration to me and I thank you for it."
We wish Pete the best of luck during his next F2000 race day, just four weeks away.
