WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!
PETE OLSON WINS 2008 BRIDGESTONE MTP F2000 CHAMPIONSHIP WITH DOUBLE POLES
AND DOUBLE WINS IN FINAL RACES – DOMINATES CHAMPIONSHIP’S FINAL RACE DAY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 28, 2008
Ontario, Canada –
“Flat out or nothing” seems to be the winning mantra of American racer Pete Olson, who once again concluded
another Bridgestone MTP Formula 2000/SCCA race series today with what was yet another inspired drive from the racer
who seems to not only be able to deal with pressure behind the wheel, but to actually thrive on it when it comes to
season-ending points battles for Championships, from sunny Southern California to an early Canadian winter.
Today, in 2 degrees Celsius weather, all competitors fought the brutal cold as well as each other for the glamour of
winning the 2008 Bridgestone Formula SCCA/Formula 2000 Championship. Olson faced serious competition from his own
protégé, Maxx Ebenal of Saskatchewan, Canada, and Laurence Baptiste of Montreal, Quebec, drivers who had
previously challenged Olson on several occasions this season. Going into today’s final Formula SCCA race day, Olson was
tied in points with Ebenal, with Baptiste just two points behind. However, the American driver once again proved who
was boss with pole position for his first place qualifying over a half second over Ebenal for the day’s first race, and almost
a full second ahead of 2nd place qualifier Baptiste for the day’s second race.
Olson took aggressive starts in both races, jumping his British Van Diemen Formula SCCA/2000 race car aggressively on
both race starts with the tires sliding out, and observers wondering how Olson kept the car on the track. In both
starts, Olson aggressively cut off competitors in the first couple of corners to rocket off into the lead. “Some people
said my starts were wild, or unfair, but that’s racing. There is no ‘blocking’ on the start, no rules, it’s every man for
himself, and either you are in first or you are nowhere.”
Olson finished both races far ahead of the competition, putting massive distance between Ebenal and Baptiste in both
races, to wind up lapping several competitors in each race. Head Bridgestone instructor Scott Beath commented that
“Pete set a very high standard for everyone this season, taking all the lap records at this track from the start. Later,
Ebenal and Baptiste raised the bar on Pete. But today, Pete raised it way the %$% up once again…he was absolutely
untouchable.”
Olson said: " I will be back in Asia soon, China Formula Renault…time to go for the gold like never before. China Formula
Renault is a fantastic series for sponsor’s goals, as well as my Indy career endeavors. I want to dedicate this day and my
Championship to my brother Matt, who has been there through my career every time I drive, the angel on my shoulder
who has inspired me to keep the fight when times are tough."
